The United States has warned of potential terrorist attacks and kidnappings in Turkey against US citizens and other foreigners, the embassy in Ankara says.

The warning was based on "credible reports" received by the US mission, it said in a security alert, which include possible attacks against "the US Consulate General as well as potentially other locations in Turkey".
All services for US citizens as well as visa services at the embassy in Ankara, consulates in Istanbul and the southern city of Adana, as well as a consular agency in the Aegean city of Izmir have been temporarily suspended.
US citizens have been advised to remain cautious particularly where foreigners may gather in large numbers or in shopping centres and office buildings.
